The State Attorney's Office in Volusia County gave an update on the case of a man accused of shooting an off-duty police officer more than 20 times at close range.

Eduardo Machado, 24, allegedly killed Edgewater Police Officer David Jewell in Ormond-by-the-Sea last month.

According to Volusia County Sheriff's deputies, Machado, who was a clerk at the Circle K store where the shooting happened, fired 24 shots, emptying two clips.

The entire incident was caught on surveillance video.

Machado is facing a first-degree murder charge.

"It's clear that this case deserves the ultimate punishment," said State Attorney R.J. Larizza.

The State Attorney's Office in Volusia County will be seeking the death penalty.
