SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly 2.5 inches of rain fell in Salt Lake City on Saturday, marking the second wettest day on record since 1901.
The October storm brought 2.47 inches of rain, according to KSL meteorologists and the National Weather Service.
Records of Salt Lake City rainfall go back to 1874. The last time downtown Salt Lake City received more rain was on May 3, 1901, when 2.64 inches of rain was recorded.
However, Saturdays rain is still the most the city has ever had in the month of October, according to KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson.
While the rain helped to suppress a 651 acre fire near Springville, it also brought flash flood warnings to Tooele County while flooding parts of downtown Salt Lake City.
