LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of Louisville seniors were at risk of going hungry after federal funding for the city's Senior Nutrition Program expired last week.
The program delivers five meals once a week to roughly 900 homebound seniors across Louisville.
Despite the federal cuts, those seniors won't go without food anytime soon.
On Monday, Mayor Craig Greenberg said the city reallocated hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Office of Social Services to fund the program through the end of the year.
“We aren’t going to wait to see if someone else in Washington takes care of our own here in Louisville,” he said. “When the federal government turns its backs on families, our city is going to step up to meet the moment.”
