WATERLOO, Iowa — Waterloo Fire Rescue held its annual Firefighter Memorial, honoring those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The department emphasized the importance of these events as a reminder of the daily risks firefighters face. Fire Chief William Beck highlighted new mental health programs aimed at providing necessary support for firefighters while they continue their work.
"It’s a chance for us to get together and remember all the sacrifices we've made in the past," Beck said. "By having those moments of remembrance, we get the best chance to keep ourselves healthy and safe."
The memorial is an annual event that kicks off Fire Prevention Week.
