Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker (44) flexes after a sack on Houston Texans quarterback CJ. Stroud (7) during the first quarter of an NFL football matchup at EverBank Stadium, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, in Jacksonville, Fla. The Jaguars defeated the Texans 17-10.

Entering Monday night's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars are enjoying a somewhat shocking start to the 2025 NFL season. What should be heartening is that the Jaguars are winning, and Trevor Lawrence isn't necessarily playing all that well. What happens if/when he gets together? Phew.

At the center of Jacksonville's early-season success has actually been a surprisingly good defense.

At the time of this writing, the Jaguars are fourth in scoring defense. Their 13 takeaways also lead the NFL. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they might be without one of their top pass-rushers against a Patrick Mahomes offense, which feels a little precarious on paper, even if the Chiefs will be without Rashee Rice.

Former No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker recently underwent an undisclosed procedure for his wrist. That potentially puts his status in doubt against Kansas City. However, it should be noted that Jaguars head coach Liam Coen characterized Walker, who wore a club during practice this week, as more day-to-day than anything:

Walker has averaged roughly 15 quarterback hits and 10 sacks for the Jaguars in recent years. It would be huge if he could still play and be effective against the Chiefs. We'll see how he feels after warming up on Monday night and what the Jaguars eventually decide about his status.
