Shopian, Oct 6: Heavy rains have disrupted apple picking operations in the higher reaches of south Kashmir but enhanced the glow of the fruit.

The higher belts of Shopian and Kulgam districts, including Heerpora, Sedow, Chotipora, Kellar, Watoo, and Manzgam, known for their high-quality apple orchards, have been experiencing continuous rainfall since early Monday morning.

However, many growers said that while the precipitation has delayed harvesting, it could also prove beneficial by enhancing the colour and overall quality of the fruit.

“We have stopped harvesting temporarily as we wait for the rains to stop,” said Tariq Ahmad, a farmer from Shopian. “We are gathering and sorting the apples that were already picked, but a significant portion of the crop remains on the trees.”
