State Rep. Robert Craven Sr. has resigned his position as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee less than a week after past legal troubles resurfaced and forced him to abandon a campaign for attorney general.
Craven, a North Kingstown Democrat, announced he will not seek reelection to represent House District 32.
"In the best interests of my family, I have resigned as chair of the House Judiciary Committee," Craven said in an email release. "Through my seven years as chair, I was privileged to shepherd issues like women’s reproductive health, gun safety, and the environment that matter deeply to Rhode Islanders. While I will continue to serve the people of North Kingstown through the end of my term, I will not seek re-election."
