N.J. woman killed while walking across street near her home, cops say

A 56-year-old Newark woman was struck and killed by a vehicle after leaving her home early Saturday, authorities said.

Vanessa Bunn and another person left the home on the 400 block of Washington Street at 3 a.m. and one vehicle stopped to allow them to cross the street, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

But as the pair continued across the street, a northbound vehicle that went around the stopped car hit Bunn, officials said.

The driver stopped at the scene after striking Bunn. She died of her injuries at an area hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
