Match officials have been called out as “reluctant” by NRL great Billy Slater after multiple players avoided the sin bin until the dying stages of Sunday’s grand final.

Storm lock Trent Loiero ended the game on the sidelines for a shoulder charge with two minutes to go.

The decision was in contrast to Broncos pair Reece Walsh and Brendan Piakura both avoiding the bin earlier in the game.

All three players were put on report as was Storm skipper Harry Grant for a trip on Ezra Mam.

Walsh escaped with a $3000 fine and Piakura can also accept an $1800 fine, but Loiero was hit with a two-match ban.

Loeiro being the only man to be sin-binned on the night did not go unquestioned in the commentary box.
