JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —

A man is accused of breaking into a Jackson County judge’s chambers at the Eastern Jackson County Courthouse, putting on the judge’s robe, and trying to leave with stolen property before deputies arrested him.

A probable cause statement alleges that Wilber Mateo was found early Friday morning sitting on a courthouse bench outside a Division courtroom after an employee spotted him inside the judge’s chambers. Advertisement

According to court records, Mateo was wearing one of the judge’s robes and had three bags of stolen property nearby containing laptops, office equipment, and papers with login credentials.

Security footage showed Mateo allegedly entering the courthouse Thursday afternoon and hiding inside after closing.
