SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Three agencies in Madison County have teamed up to launch the Norfolk Project Lifesaver Team, a search and rescue program for at-risk individuals.

After months of planning and training, the Norfolk Project Lifesaver officially launched on Monday, Oct. 6.

Project Lifesaver is a community-based, public safety non-profit, providing agencies and caregivers a program designed to protect and, if needed, locate individuals with cognitive disorders, like Alzheimer’s and autism, who may be prone to wandering.

The program uses radio transmitters and trains rescue personnel to help locate those individuals.

The transmitter emits an individualized frequency signal that is unique to that person and will notify the Norfolk Project Lifesaver Agency.
