MANHATTAN — The best way for Kansas State football to create a social media fury among its fan base throughout the 2025 season has been its several play calls that have seen quarterback Avery Johnson throw to a wide receiver who isn't clear of the first-down marker.

Against Baylor, there were three such situations where Johnson completed passes to receivers on third downs, and the Wildcats (2-4, 1-2 Big 12) failed to pick up the first. So far this season, there have been 15 plays in which K-State has faced third-and-10 or shorter and completed passes that didn't pick up the first down.

The most notable instance may have occurred in Week 0, when Johnson completed a short pass to Garrett Oakley for a gain of two yards on third-and-3 in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats turned the ball
