EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — After two decades, the City of Edmond is getting another fire station to serve the community.

Fire Station 6 joins the fleet to serve the community more efficiently.

"This is the first station added to our system in over 20 years. The population has grown more than 20,000 people since we added another station," said Mayor Mark Nash, City of Edmond.

Since 2005, Edmond has been operating with five fire stations. Now, with the addition of Station 6, off of Kelly, near Sorghum Mill Road, fire crews said they can answer emergency calls even quicker.

"We try to put the stations strategically where we can get to any call within 4 minutes or less. Once we start rolling out the door," said Terry Essary, The Fire Chief at the Edmond Fire Department.
