MADISON (WKOW) — Attorney General Josh Kaul (D-WI) announced that the Trump administration has lifted conditions on Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants following a lawsuit filed by Wisconsin and other states.
The lawsuit, initiated on Aug. 18, challenged conditions that required states to allocate resources to federal immigration enforcement.
The U.S. Department of Justice has now abandoned its plan to restrict access to nearly $1.4 billion in VOCA grants nationwide, according to a Monday press release. Wisconsin faced a potential loss of more than $24 million in federal funding for victim service programs, the release stated.
