LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that Wisconsin leads the nation in deaths from falls. Experts attribute this to chronic health conditions and the state's wintry weather.

Megan Anderson from Emplify Health by Gundersen said falls are the leading injury they see in their trauma center. She emphasized that falls frequently occur in and around the home, especially for older adults.

"Anytime you fall and hit your head, it's a good idea to seek medical attention," Anderson said. "You can get a concussion from a fall or have some injury that way."

Anderson advised slowing down and being more conscious of surroundings to prevent dangerous falls. She also suggested focusing on fitness that enhances strength and balance to maint
