WARREN – State Rep. Jason Knight , a former state prosecutor-turned-defense lawyer best known in the Rhode Island political world for his efforts to win passage of an "assault weapons" ban, is running for attorney general.

The five-term Democratic legislator, who represents a House district that encompasses parts of Barrington and Warren, was poised to formally announce his candidacy at The Guild brewery along the Warren waterfront on Monday, Oct. 6.
