GOULDSBORO, Maine (WABI) - A new-and-improved piece of Downeast history is back in its rightful place.
An iconic Maine image – the lighthouse in Prospect Harbor dates back to the mid-1800s. Decades ago, the Navy commissioned a replica – intended as part of a parade float – and gifted it to the Town of Gouldsboro.
But unlike its life-sized inspiration, the replica did not withstand the Maine elements.
“Unfortunately, the years of sitting in the sun, the rain, and the snow kind of destroyed it. I saw it was in rough condition, so I offered to do some painting and fixing up on it,” said Gouldsboro resident and multi-medium maker Rick Henion.
Henion soon realized he needed to start from scratch. He wanted to do it the right way, which meant asking the Navy for access.
