CLINTON, Wis. (WKOW) — Soybean farmers are grappling with the impacts of the U.S.-China trade war, as China, the largest historical buyer of U.S. soybeans, has halted purchases since May. President Donald Trump is planning an aid package for affected farmers.

Matt Rehberg, a first-generation farmer from Clinton, grows crops including corn, wheat, and soybeans.

"The problem is the buyers aren't calling right now," Rehberg said.

Since President Trump's trade war began in May, China has not bought any soybeans from Rehberg's -- or any other -- U.S. farm.

With China not purchasing American supply, Rehberg said the country is turning to U.S. competitors like Brazil and Argentina.
