MARYLAND, USA — A new kind of fight is brewing at the Maryland Renaissance Festival , not one with swords and shields, but a legal battle.
The festival is taking legal action against ticket scalpers they said are reselling tickets for hundreds of dollars more than face value.
The Maryland Renaissance Festival has surged in popularity over the years. Festival President Jules Smith said after the pandemic ticket sales spiked, and have continued to grow. This year nearly 400,000 people are attending.
"We sold out 18 of the 19 days we operated this year," Smith said. "And that's invited people that try and scalp tickets to make money off of the event."
Smith said he's proud to be one of the least expensive festivals in the country, with official tickets being $32 for adults. He said sc
