Local teens yearning for the bright lights of Broadway are about to get a significant helping hand from a Northrop graduate who's been there and conquered that.

And, if all goes well, this could lead to a permanent performing arts school downtown.

Tony and Grammy awards winner Heather Headley is the star power behind creating the new arts academy being billed as a three-day boot camp. It will take place on Nov. 7, 8 and 9 at the Pearl Street Arts Center in downtown Fort Wayne.

Friday is the deadline for local high school students to apply.

Headley will share her personal voice teacher and acting coach with the 25 students who are chosen by a panel of judges, based on two short video submissions. The first should be a personal introduction and the second an audition performance of 90 se
