SUFFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Suffield police are issuing a warning after seeing an uptick in complaints about dirt bikes and ATVs on public roads.

Dirt bikes and ATVs need to be street-legal, registered, insured and driven by someone with the right license.

The fines for breaking the law can be up to nearly $400, or a misdemeanor summons to appear in court.

Police also made it clear that dirt bikes and ATVs are not allowed on private property without permission from the property owner, even if you are just “cutting through”. They warned that this would be considered trespassing.

“Given the volume of calls we have received, we are planning enforcement operations on the west side of town that will include the use of our Suffield PD quads and our drone,” police said.
