MADISON, Wis. -- For the first time this season, and almost certainly not the last, the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team had players named in the WCHA's weekly honors on Monday.
Laila Edwards was named WCHA Defender of the Week after notching four points against Maine over the weekend, including two goals in Friday's 5-0 win. She also tallied a pair of assists and a block in Saturday's win.
This isn't Edwards' first time on the conference's weekly honor roll, however it is her first time being named Defender of the Week. She was named Forward of the Week for Oct. 14, 2024 and Rookie of the Week for Dec. 12, 2022 and Feb. 6, 2023.
Ava McNaughton was named WCHA Goaltender of the Week, her fourth time taking that award home in her career. She won it three times last season as a sophomor
