PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A deadly crash restricted traffic on Interstate 10 at the entrance of the Deck Park Tunnel in central Phoenix early Monday morning.
Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded to the serious crash on I-10 eastbound near 7th Avenue, just at the start of the tunnel, around 4:30 a.m.
DPS said a motorcyclist crashed into the median attenuator at the entrance to the tunnel and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three lanes were closed in the initial response, causing a traffic backup from central Phoenix all the way to 75th Avenue in the West Valley.
The crash was cleared by 6:30 a.m., but a traffic delay remained in the area for several hours.
