During an enforcement detail in downtown Columbia over the weekend, the Columbia Police Department arrested a man who had been convicted in connection to a previous downtown shooting on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police arrested Damion Hunt, 32, Friday night after a traffic stop at Eighth and Cherry streets, according to a probable cause statement. Hunt was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped and had a semiautomatic rifle wrapped in a jacket at his feet, according to the statement.
Hunt was sentenced in September 2020 to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for second-degree assault in connection to a shooting downtown in 2019 , according to court records.
