Unseasonal snowfall has caused significant concern among apple-growers in the Lahaul valley of Lahaul and Spiti district as several branches of apple-laden trees were found broken under the weight of snow.
The apple crop in the region, which was ready for harvest, now faces the risk of major damage.
The snowfall began yesterday and has continued today, affecting both high-altitude and lower-altitude regions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a heavy rain and snowfall warning is in effect from October 5 to 7 for the district.
The district headquarters, Keylong, also experienced mild snowfall today, causing temperatures to plummet and increasing the cold wave conditions throughout the region.
