BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — It appears the Barrington Police Department's efforts to crack down on electric motorized bicycles — more commonly known as e-bikes — have paid off.

The Barrington Police Department announced over the summer that it would be ramping up patrols to prevent "dangerous operation of electric motorized bicycles" in town.

Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia told 12 News the decision to crack down on e-bikes, as well as e-scooters, was made following several complaints from residents.

"It's only a matter of time before we have a disaster," Correia said. "But we're trying to prevent that."

Correia provided the Barrington Town Council with an update on the enforcement efforts Monday evening.

Since mid-July, Correia said officers have issued nine documented warnings
