NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - Chrysanthemums and banners are seen scattered throughout New Bern as everyone prepares for its biggest festival of the year, including the city.

According to New Bern’s tourism authority, MumFest weekend generates over a million dollars in economic spending in Craven County.

With new updates, including an improved layout, musicians, kid zones, and regional food, the city anticipates another year of increased visitors following last year’s total of over 67,000.

City leaders say the influx boosts the local economy and are looking forward to what this year has in store.

“So that’s heads in bed, that’s buying gas to drive down here, it’s hopefully buying things while you’re here. Not only in the shops but also from vendors,” New Bern City Manager Foster Hughes said.
