BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Burlington's City Council voted Monday to move forward with a resolution requiring a financial disclosure form for candidates for local offices.

The vote to refer the resolution to the Ordinance Committee was 8-4, with all Progressives and three of the Council's Democrats - Sarah Carpenter, Allie Schacter, and Ben Traverse - in favor.

The resolution, in its current form, would mean that all candidates for the Burlington School Board, City Council, and Mayor would need to publicly declare any sources of income for them and their spouse or partner.

They would also be required to disclose lobbying activities and provide a 1040 - an income tax return form.

All of those are currently already required of candidates for statewide office in Vermont.
