CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cuyahoga County announced it has revised its pursuit policy to strengthen community safety.

This year, three people died from pursuits involving sheriff’s deputies.

Both chases that ended with deaths in March and August started in Downtown when the suspects refused to pull over for reckless driving.

The policy now has more specific directives when it comes to when deputies are permitted to initiate a vehicle pursuit, when a vehicle pursuit must be terminated, pursuit driving tactics, supervisory duties, and pursuit after-action reporting.

Also in the revised policy, deputies can only initiate a chase when the suspect is reasonably believed to have committed a felony.
