BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Vulcan statue was put on the National Register of Historic Places since 1976, but there has not been a marker recognizing the distinction until 2025.

Vulcan Park and Museum announced it will hold a public ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday to uncover a new sign celebrating the achievement of Birmingham being home to the world's largest cast iron statue. Sites on the National Register of Historic Places are responsible for obtaining a marker denoting the feat.

The William G. Pomeroy Foundation gave the museum a grant to help make the National Register of Historic Places signage possible.
