Venezuela has alerted the Trump administration of a foiled "false flag operation" formed by terrorists from "extremist sectors of the local Venezuelan right" who were threatening to target the United States embassy in Caracas with explosives, President Nicolas Maduro has announced.

Speaking on his weekly TV program, Mr Maduro said two sources which he did not name "agreed on the possibility that a local terrorist group placed an explosive device at the US embassy in Caracas" in order to aggravate the dispute with Washington.
