FARGO — Seventeen-year-old Tristin Coggins, previously charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 6, to a reduced charge of aggravated assault along with six other charges in connection with a shooting at the Southwood Apartments in Fargo.

Coggins, being prosecuted as an adult, said in court that the shooting occurred after a fight broke out in the apartment building.

"A fight had broke out, we got to tussling," Coggins said. "I was done with everything, I wasn't even trying to fight no more, but as we were trying to leave the apartment building another fight break out."

He claimed he was stabbed with a steak knife during the altercation and lost memory of events immediately after. "I just remember my whole leg being red and I fell on the ground and that's when the shot
