OXBOW, N.D. — A horse died after being accidentally dragged about two miles along Interstate 29 around 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, south of Fargo near the Oxbow exit.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the rear door of the horse trailer somehow unlatched, spooking the horse. A halter or harness on the animal became hooked on the trailer, dragging the horse until it eventually broke free. The trauma was fatal.

State patrol and county units assisted in cleaning the scene and the affected lane of the interstate.

The driver, from Iowa, had attended the Mandan Rodeo over the weekend and was unaware of the incident. Authorities said no charges will be filed.
