HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -Economic development is coming to Huntington, with plans to fill empty space between 3rd and 5th Avenues at 24th Street near the Joan C. Edwards stadium.

Mayor Patrick Farrell said after years of waiting, the area is finally attracting business.

“We knew that land between 3rd and 5th avenue had a higher and better purpose than a baseball stadium, we found the right place for the baseball stadium, and we’re thrilled that we have attracted a company to come in and invest in jobs.”

The city said Kroger is showing interest in building a 99,000 square-foot grocery store and fueling station, with a convenient location in the middle of town.
