PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — With tolls suspended on the Belle Chasse Bridge, business is booming again for Salvo’s Seafood.

“It’s the only thing the customers were talking about,” said owner Amelia Vujnovich. “We were packed Thursday when they announced no tolls, and all the way to Saturday we stayed packed.”

Until last week, Vujnovich says a drive over the bridge could cost customers more than their meal.

“It seemed like they were coming back, then they got that bill with a $25 administration fee and they were like, ‘No, I’m not coming back,’” she said.

After weeks of complaints from drivers, local business owners and lawmakers,

“Plaquemines is worth fighting for,” Vujnovich said. “Not only for us and our business, but for the small-town vibe, for our kids and our families.”
