PRARIE CITY, Ill. (WGEM) - Prairie City Village President John Oakman has sent a letter to all McDonough County Board members, expressing his lack of confidence in the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office and calling for Sheriff Nick Petitgout‘s resignation.

This comes following an incident on Thursday where a McDonough County deputy negligently discharged a gun at MacArthur School.

Oakman provided WGEM News with the text of the letter below.

Good evening,

I am writing with great concern for the residents of McDonough County, McDonough County Sheriff’s deputies and all law enforcement personnel who must interact with the McDonough County Sheriff’s department.

It has become very apparent with the events of the past couple years, culminating now with the reckless discharge of a fire arm
