SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A medical helicopter crash in Sacramento on Monday critically injured three crew members on board and shut down Highway 50near Stockton Boulevard.
Footage from the crash showed it was a Reach Air Medical Services H130 helicopter, which is a single-engine aircraft tailored for passenger transport and medical missions. The model is designed to prevent post-crash fires by containing the fuel, and the Sacramento Fire Department confirmed that the helicopter did not catch on fire following the crash.
A National Transportation Safety Board report recommended incorporating the crash-resistant fuel systems in the H130 model in 2016 after two deadly crashes in 2015 involving other Airbus aircraft. In those crashes, the victims had survived the collisions, but died from bu
