Late in the first half on Saturday, tied 7-7 with Alabama football , Vanderbilt went to the shovel pass. Just like several others have against the Crimson Tide this season, it worked perfectly.

Diego Pavia found Sedrick Alexander, who bounced off a few potential tackler and scored a go-ahead touchdown. The score didn’t ultimately doom Alabama, which won the game 30-14, but the shovel passes are an area of concern for Kane Wommack’s defense.

On Monday, Wommack was asked to explain why the Tide struggles so much against the passes during his weekly press conference.
