In February, 2024, Blakeman issued an executive order prohibiting transgender athletes from playing on women’s and girls' sports teams on county property.

In May, 2024 State Supreme Court Justice Francis Ricigliano struck down the executive order, saying Blakeman went "beyond the scope of his authority."

In June, 2024 Nassau County lawmakers voted to pass a law mandating the same ban.
