The brand new Wetherspoon pub in Kenilworth was forced to close for a time at the weekend. Punters arrived at the Dictum of Kenilworth Saturday to find a sign on the door telling customers it was closed.

The pub chain giant has since explained the closure, saying an issue with drainage raised safety concerns. We understand it was back open again by Sunday morning.

A sign put up at the front door told visitors: "We are currently closed due to maintenance issues. We will be closed until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told CoventryLive: "The pub had a drainage issue and for health and safety reasons it made the decision to close for a short period to rectify the situation."
