When former Duke football coach David Cutcliffe came out in a construction style hard hat ahead of the Blue Devils ' 2014 season finale vs. Wake Forest, it sparked an idea in longtime Duke fans Alex and Matthew Taffer and Mike Hardison.

Bulldozers sat in the end zones of Wallace Wade Stadium, with everyone knowing the track surrounding the field would soon be torn up. The track had been part of the stadium for decades, but its removal marked the start of a new era for Duke football.
