A key link to a planned bicycle and pedestrian-friendly trail network from West Oahu to urban Honolulu has been completed, city officials say.
The city Department of Transportation Services announced that a $2.5 million project involving the first renovated segment of the more than 10-mile Pearl Harbor Historic Trail bike path recently ended near Kamehameha Highway in Aiea.
Work began on Feb. 3 to replace the existing asphalt and concrete surfaces with new concrete, providing bicyclists with a smoother, safer ride, DTS said.
As part of the improvements, new bollards, signs, stripes and lights were installed to enhance safety, DTS said.
