RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Despite the government shutdown, Youth and Family Services in Rapid City is continuing to support in-home daycares in food and nutrition education.

The organization has done this for over 40 years under the USDA.

The Family Child Care Nutrition Program works with families to provide nutritional education and establish relationships with healthy food at a young age.

"There's a meal pattern that has to be followed; it's quite simple. Serving a grain group, serving a meat group, serving a fruit and a vegetable, and milk. All five food components have to be served in their menu," YFS Nutrition Services Director Darcie Decker said.
