Zebras should be born free, not in zoos

It was heartbreaking to read the recent article about the baby zebra born at York’s Wild Kingdom. Wild animals, such as zebras, are meant to roam miles each day across open plains. Confining them to a heated barn for the long New England winter robs them of everything natural and necessary in their lives.
Captivity is no life for wild animals, and overwintering in a barn is even crueler. The same is true for lions, tigers, and monkeys. A heated den or indoor pool is still just a cage.
