TIGER Woods appears to be taking the first steps towards a return to competitive golf.

The 15-time major winner has been out of action since rupturing his Achilles in March.

Woods , 49, underwent surgery on the issue and has been battling to get back on the course.

He was spotted striking balls in September and is now poised to make a surprise return.

Woods has been named alongside Rory McIlroy in the upcoming TGL.

The technology-led Golf League was founded by both McIlroy and Woods, in partnership with the PGA Tour.

It features six teams comprised of top PGA Tour players playing a 15-match regular season.

Woods was confirmed as the captain of Jupiter Links GC on Monday.

TGL's second season will officially kick off on December 28 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California
