Aberdeen have been on the hunt for a new director of football with Lutz Pfannenstiel given backing from Germany football heavyweights as he leads the three-man shortlist.

The German is one of the remaining contenders after Pittodrie chiefs held talks with Pfannenstiel over the weekend and he also took in Sunday's 4-0 win over Dundee.

The Scottish Cup winners will also go through the same process with two other candidates before they make a final decision.

The issue they have is that Pfannenstiel is also wanted for the sporting director role at Borussia Monchengladbach, the Record reports .

The 52-year-old is well known to the Aberdeen board because he helped BPTC with their football review of the club last year.
