The Labour Government is said to be weighing up several options for changing the two-child cap on additional benefit payments.

Charities, welfare rights groups and a number of MPs have long called for the policy to be scrapped, criticising it as a key cause of child poverty. Campaigners argue that 109 children across the UK are pulled into poverty by the cap every day.

Any changes to the measure, which impacts Universal Credit claimants, seem likely to be announced in the Chancellor's Autumn Budget on November 26.
