Eighty years after the Japanese surrendered, formally ending World War II, CNN’s Stephanie Elam sat down with US Navy veteran Robert Somrak, who served on the USS Missouri during the war. Somrak says he joined the Navy because he loved the sea, the water and he knew in the Navy he’d have “a clean bed and good food.” He recalls what life was like on the “Mighty Mo,” witnessing the aftermath of a kamikaze attack and watching as members of the Japanese Imperial Government boarded the Missouri on September 2, 1945, to take part in the surrender ceremony. #CNN #News
