NEW YORK CITY, New York — Nearly five years after the death of drummer Neil Peart, rock legends Rush have revealed their new drummer: German virtuoso Anika Nilles, as part of their surprise 2026 reunion, the Associated Press reported .
The band’s cofounders, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, praised Nilles’ technical chops and musical sensitivity, saying she can channel the feel of Rush’s complex rhythms while bringing fresh energy, according to The Guardian .
The Associated Press said her résumé includes stints with Jeff Beck and a growing reputation as a composer, educator and YouTube clinician.
She also holds a leadership role in Germany’s Popakademie and has released solo instrumental albums blending prog, jazz, and pop, Heavy Consequence News reported .
