An 'illegal' encampment behind a popular West Lothian leisure centre has been given 24 hours to vacate the site.

West Lothian Council took to social media to warn several vehicles had set up an 'unlawful' encampment behind the 5-aside pitches at Xcite Bathgate on Tuesday October 7.

The encampment has been served a 24 hour notice to quit and if they fail to move on during this period, officers will begin a legal process for eviction.

"West Lothian Council and Police Scotland are aware of vehicles unlawfully encamping at Xcite Bathgate on an area behind the 5-aside football pitches," the council statement read.

"The Council have served a 24 hour notice to quit on the encampment. Should the encampment remain after the notice period expires, officers will proceed with the legal process
